Cow protection has become everybody’s concern these days. The recent incident in Alwar catched more fire than expected and now the incident has came in the eye of the law keepers. The Supreme Court is seeking answer from center and six other states that why the unlawful cow vigilantes should not be banned for bringing disharmony amidst the castes and communities.

They have asked for a valid reply on the PIL filed which seeks ban on so called “gau rakshak dals” from the center and states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Jharkhand. This was done by a desk of justice which includes Dipak Mishra, A M Khanwilkar and M M Shantanagoudhar. These self-made groups assaulted the alleged cow movers or smugglers.

This was followed by the recent death of 55 year old farmer from Alwar named Pehlu Khan which took a shape of assault by these cow vigilantes.

The senior advocate, Sanjay Hegde will make himself available for the petitioner and requested the bench to look in to the matter on an immediate note. In this, they want court to instruct the state government to not provide any kind of safety shield to members of these groups.

Hegde highlighted the fact that, the members of so called, “gau rakshak dals, have been merged into many unlawful acts. They not only conducted atrocities against the Dalits and minor community population but also urged government to take hazardous action against them which is not right in any sense.

Hegde mentioned, “The problem is not at the central level but on the ground in states as there are state laws which are giving protection to such groups. We cannot afford to have such incidents and the chief secretary of Rajasthan should be asked to file an affidavit on the incident”.
