Tabu’s real name is Tabassum Hashmi. Her pet name is Tabu which she adopted as her stage name in Bollywood, Tabu is called by more than hundred pet names like ‘Tabs’, ‘Tubs’ to ‘Tubby’, ‘Tobler’ and ‘Toblerone’ etc.
She got her big break when director Shekhar Kapur, who had known her since she was a child, insisted she act in Prem.
Tabu has worked in films like Life of Pi and The Namesake that are based on books. But she had never shown her interest in reading them. She shared that she enacted on the script not on movies.
Tabu has bagged two National Awards for her fantabulous performance in Maachis and for Chandni Bar. She is also awarded the Padma Shri in 2011.
