Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has revealed that he and MS Dhoni, with whom he won two World Cups for India, were not close friends. Yuvraj acknowledged that their lifestyles were quite different.

“Me and Mahi are not close friends. We were friends because of cricket, we played together. Mahi’s lifestyle was very different from me, so we were never close friends, we were only friends because of cricket,” Yuvraj said during a conversation on the TRS show.

Yuvraj also explained that it’s not necessary for teammates to be best friends off the field, as everyone has different lifestyles and skill sets. He highlighted that when they stepped onto the field, they both gave more than 100% for their country.

While Dhoni was the captain, Yuvraj was the vice-captain, and naturally, they had differences in decision-making, which is common in any team.

Yuvraj mentioned that Dhoni played a role in giving him a clear understanding of the selectors’ stance regarding his inclusion in the 2019 World Cup squad. Dhoni informed Yuvraj that the selection committee was not considering him for the World Cup, providing him with valuable clarity about his cricket career.

Yuvraj also reminisced about how Dhoni intentionally blocked two balls during a 2011 World Cup match against the Netherlands to ensure that Yuvraj could reach his fifty. This gesture reflected the camaraderie and support they shared on the field.
