Studies prove that working 4 days a week is great for health and increases productivity!

4 days a week

We love weekends. Weekends are fun. Weekends are happy. And moreover, Weekends are ‘free from work’. Modern life has been categorized in two types of days we live in week days and weekends. Our work has a great effect on the personality we possess, the health and the way we look forward towards life and several life situations. Let’s cut straight to the chase- we people work our ass off. And it pays, but not always. You invest a lot of efforts, time and energy but sometimes you pay for it in return.  Generally offices and multinational companies make you work 6 days a week  (not 4 days a week) and from 10-5 or 10-6. What it to be noticed here is that your personal life gets diminished and you do not have anytime even for yourself. This can further put a worse effect on your health.

A recent study has found that working only 4 days a week is great for health and not only saves energy but also increase productivity. MNCs are you listening? 4 days a week work routine will not only make you happy (obviously) but is also healthy. IT is also helpful as it saves energy, no resources are used, no chemicals/carbon is emitted etc. It would definitely have a great impact on the much talked about global warming. As far as start-ups are concerned, this could be a big way to save the resources and energy. Not only will the employees be satisfied but also because low resources would be consumed, productivity could be increased. Also, it will reduce the electricity and internet bills. This is one solid reason why the world needs to start following this rule. Your employees would work harder and with more passion, and why not, after all, they’ll be given a 3-day long weekend.

In 2011, the state of Utah decided to follow 4 days a week work system. What happened next? The working hours of state employees were increased to lodge the new Monday to Thursday routine. Then the studies showed that not only were the employees much happier but a significant drop was seen in absenteeism and as a result productivity was increased.

Britain’s top doc John Ashton advocated a 4-day work week for better mental and physical health. The Guardian reported him saying, “We should be moving towards a four-day week because the problem we have in the world of work is you’ve got a proportion of the population who are working too hard and a proportion that haven’t got jobs. We’ve got a mal distribution of work. The lunch-hour has gone; people just have a sandwich at their desk and carry on working.”

We are in our 20s and 30s. We are young and daring. Who would want to leave early from office or even skip work if such a system is adopted by our companies? Say what?
