Yet another CDR racket exposed: A Jaipur cop along with 3 others arrested

Delhi Police Crime Branch was reported about a “snooping racket” earlier this month after which they started their investigation. As a result, Delhi Police has busted yet another “Snooping racket” being run by detective agencies across various cities. There have been 4 arrests in the case which includes a Jaipur police cop and 3 other people. This is considered to be the second module as earlier this month; Delhi Police investigated and cracked the first module of the case after arresting five persons, which also included a Police Constable from Uttar Pradesh.

The complete matter revolves around procuring Call Detail Records (CDRs) illegally and then selling them in exchange for a lucrative sum. The latest arrests have been made after conducting raids in various cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Jaipur. This is the result of a whole network which is being reported to the police by a Delhi-based Resident who claims that the accused had exchanged his son’s CDRs with him in exchange for Rs 8000, as told by Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

Later, the accused have been identified as Aniket Prakash Dhamle (25), who is an ethical hacker by profession and owns a detective agency in Pune. Abhinav Kumar (35) is another link in the chain, who heads a detective agency in Mumbai; Gajraj Singh (23), a cyber expert who was helping Jaipur Police for the past two years; and Mukesh Kumar Meena (38), a sub-inspector in the cyber cell of Jaipur Police whose promotion was due next month, police said.

It is reported that Meena sent over 2000 CDRs to Gajraj Singh through official links for Rs. 1500 each, which were resold by Singh to the detective agencies for around Rs. 3500. These records were sold to the prospective clients charging them between Rs. 5000-12000, according to the Police.

Such CDRs were used by the detective agencies to solve their cases relating to matrimonial disputes, financially inquiries of their rivals, love affairs, civil disputes, legal disputes and match-making.

The whole case has questioned to the safety and privacy over the call details record of people and had also put the image Jaipur police under a question mark.
