Always wondered what’s the much hyped Sri Amarnath Yatra all about?  Planning to find it out for yourself by participating in Amarnath Yatra 2016? Here is what all you need to know first.

It is a Hindu Pilgrimage which takes place annually. Devotees from all around the world come and paAmarnath Yatra 2016rticipate in this arduous yet spiritual pilgrimage. It starts from the months of June/July and halts around the months of August/ September and all in all it is a 2 month long journey.

Amarnath Yatra 2016 is expecting a grand participation of around 4, 00,000 pilgrims. You can be a part of this huge number and witness the highly sacred aura that Amarnath Yatra has the power to shower on you.

Tentatively, the Yatra will start from 2nd of July and will end on the day of Raksha Bandhan i.e 18th of August.

Once you are aware of the final dates, next step is to register yourself for the Yatra. The registration process costing a total of 50 Rs has already begun from 29th February 2016. It functions on a first come first serve basis through Yatra Registration Form which is available both online and at Yatra Registration counters at different selected branches of Punjab National Banks and J&K Bank. The form has to be attached with a Prescribed Health Certificate, given by an authorized doctor. Once the registration gets completed, the Yatra Registration Officer, will issue a Yatra Permit Card (YPC). This YPC, will mention your Yatra Date and Yatra Route in printed text. To be safer and help yourself to plan your trip in advance, registration for the Yatra is the best option. All registered pilgrims get an insurance cover of 1, 00,000 Rs if in case the difficulty during the Amarnath Yatra cause any casualties.

Once the Yatra is about to start off with, a proper list off all the registered members will be made available on the official website of SASB.  Only pilgrims between the age limit of 13 to 75 can take part in the Yatra. Medical patients are not allowed and no women with more than 6 months of pregnancy are eligible to participate.

For the novice pilgrims, it is important to note that the Yatra can be traversed in two ways.  One can start from Baltal (16 kms) or Pahalgam (42 kms). Another easier and faster way to complete this Yatra is via helicopters. It is suggested to book helicopter service much before in advance because they run out of rides in no time.
