A Billion Dollar Ad Campaign Lands Gehlot in Trouble

Ashok Gehlot Advertisment Scam

ACB says that Shell Cable Companies were Involved in the Whooping 100 Crore Scam…

Karma is a Bitch. It gives the punishment first and lesson afterwards. No one can relate to this feeling better than former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot. Post demonetization, the congress chieftain demanded PM Narendra Modi to reveal if he was elected to the high office using white money, considering that BJP spent an exorbitant amount for his election campaigns during 2014 elections. The PM however, didn’t respond to Gehlot’s allegations. It seems that now, it’s Gehlot who has some explaining to do.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau Unveils Ashok Gehlot’s Advertisment Scam, Reports Reveal that he Used Shell Companies for Illegal Transactions

The Indian anti-corruption bureau’s 2015 reports reveal the involvement of Gehlot and then-DIPR director Loknath Soni in this multi-billion advertisement scam. According to the reports, Gehlot spent a whooping 500 crore in TV ads to promote his party on media platforms. While the campaign was on the run, ex-DIPR head Soni, on behalf of Congress party, published ads in newspapers and aired them on television channels.

In this regard, the DIPR (Department of Information & Public Relations) officers made payments to Ajay Chopra, the head of Crayons advertising. Approximately 50-60% of the revenue was paid to Chopra as commissions. This money was later distributed to different cable operators and ad companies by Crayons. However, the shocking reality is that all shell companies receiving hefty payments just existed on paper. It was Gehlot and his troops that were benefited from these transactions

When this fact was presented before DIPR Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary and Chief Secretary to the CM, they demanded a reasonable explanation from the CM. Seeing no way out from this controversy, Gehlot got the officials transferred to other departments.

What’s more surprising is that the entire conspiracy was hatched at Gehlot’s place and he was not the solitary culprit in this multi-billion scam.  Many key DIPR officials like Chief Secretary CK Mathew, former PR chief secretary Niranjan Arya, Director of LSG Tara Chand Meena, former Principal Secretary Shailendra Agrawal and BPS Commissioner Purushottam Agarwal backed Gehlot in this endeavor.

Based on the reports of the anti-corruption bureau, now the government will probe CBI investigations against the offenders, including prominent Congress leaders. Apparently, Gehlot got the bitter taste of his own medicine and he’s no longer in a position to question others when he himself is neck-deep involved in scams.
