Power of electricity is unimaginable. Not just for small villages where people don’t really know what they can fathom with the help of electricity. But even for urban people living in developed cities cannot judge the extent to which they can utilize the power they get. The only thing we know about power’s power is that it can change the world we live in.
It’s sad that in India there are still places where ‘bijli’ is just a magical world. But the good news is that some non-electrified villages have been electrically revamped and their turnover is amazing.
Let’s check their happy pictures and know how the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana transformed some lives.
1. Bandarjan Grant Village of Sivasagar district – Assam
Had no electricity since independence.
Was troubled with wild elephants trampling their paddy fields.
With electricity, they built electric fences to keep away their giant enemies.
2. Chepana NC Village of Baksa district – Assam
No electricity since 1970.
Suffered from issues of education, heat, connectivity etc.
With electricity life became much easier especially cooking.
3. Udmari village of Nagaon district – Assam
No power for last 30-40 years.
Used kerosene lamps which became unaffordable.
Agricultural practices got costly.
With electricity lives changed a lot.
4. Damdama Village of Jamui district – Bihar
“Our children also used to study under kerosene lamplight, which adversely affected their eyesight,”
With electricity both education and eyesight got a savior.
5. Nuaon village of Buxar district – Bihar
“In summers, ladies and children at home during the day faced the ill-effects of heat waves. Moreover, poorly lit parts of the village were a threat to safety at night”.
With electricity, “Flour mills and motors are also used in the village now,”
6. Safari village of Saran district – Bihar
Faced issues in performing daily chores, especially cooking,
With electricity, “Now, even youngsters are starting small businesses using electricity in the village,”
8. Pedapadmapuram habitation of Srikakulam district – Andhra Pradesh
Witnessed no electricity since their habitation.
With power, “Now our children will be able to study during night time and we can cook food easily at night and in the early mornings”
9. Adaparaigondi habitation of Visakhapatnam district – Andhra Pradesh
“We lived in the dark for years. We didn’t have mobile phones for contacting our relatives living in other parts of the state,”
With electricity coming into their lives, use of fans, mobiles, televisions has been made easier.
