Depicted Indian map wrongly? Get ready to get a fine of up to Rs 100 cr fine or 7 years in jail!

wrong india map in google

Now if you or anybody else does not know the exact shape of how your own country looks then firstly, you should be ashamed and also now the government has some very strict actions planned against the violators.

Changing a person entirely is easier and not punishable but if you intentionally or unintentionally depict Indian map’s shape with any sort of errors then do make note of this announcement by the government’s Geospatial Information Regulation Bill, 2016 which states, “Whoever depicts, disseminates, publishes or distributes any wrong or false topographic information of India including international boundaries in contravention of section 6, shall be punished with a fine ranging from Rupees ten lakh to Rupees one hundred crore and/or imprisonment for a period up to seven years.”

Here’s why the government felt the need to make such an amendment because recently, one site on the social networking space, erroneously depicted the geographical location of Jammu as one part of Pakistan. Not only this, they also showed Kashmir as part of China and not India. Later on it was made to correct by the Government of India.

According to the bill, “It is mandatory to take permission from a government authority before acquiring, disseminating, publishing or distributing any geospatial information of India. Whoever acquires any geospatial information of India in contravention of the law shall be punished with a fine ranging from Rs 1 crore to Rs 100 crore and/or imprisonment for a period up to seven years,”

So from next time, please be careful when you have and Indian map to showcase somewhere. Just make sure it is in correct shape and size because the government has sources everywhere and obviously no one would want to end up paying an unimaginable fine or stay in jail.
