Chennai Rains continues for fifth day; Braces for more

The situation of rainfall in Chennai gets worsen today after last night’s downpour. The incessant rain resulted in submerging of houses. Even the crops in the areas also ruined. As per met department’s records, Chennai has received 441.3 mm rainfall since October 27 while it received 140mm of rain in last two days i.e. Thursday evening and Friday morning. On Friday, the Chief Minister of the state E Palaniswami visited several water-logged parts of Chennai and its suburbs and Chief Minister said that his government was working on a “war-footing”.

However, most of the water-logging has been cleared in Chennai while suburbs of the capital still continued to be water-logged. The weather forecast department has also warned the people of intermittent heavy rain in coastal Tamil Nadu for today.

Measures were taken by Government of Tamil Nadu
For the relief purpose, there are 105 relief camps set up in Chennai. People from Chennai and other coastal areas took haven under these camps. More than 10,000 people took shelter after the monsoon intensified. The Madras High Court, on Friday, directed the Chennai civic body to file a detailed status report on the steps various steps taken to prevent water-logging.

For the continuous support of Police of the city, actor Kamal Haasan spoke his heart and tweeted,                 “Thanks for going beyond the call of your duty. Good citizens shine with or without uniform. More similar Thamizhan’s should report to duty.”

Problems faced by people
Rain led to closure of schools in Chennai and other coastal towns for the consecutive fifth day. Since Tuesday, schools in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur have been closed. In fact, in many areas of Chennai, power supply was suspended to ensure safety. The patients have to face the trouble too as the ground floor of the government hospital in south Chennai was flooded with water.

Apart from this, the popular Marina Beach of Chennai was also water-logged on Friday. In fact, the houses in the coastal district of Nagapattinam are suffering from with incessant rains. Heavy rains disrupted the movement of several flights at Chennai airport and slowed down local trains on the Chennai Beach-Tambaram route.
