Bharatpur Tragedy Strikes: CM Vasundhara Raje announces Rs 2 lac relief fund for each bereaved family

A wedding hall in Bharatpur collapsed yesterday killing 25 people and injuring 28 people who had  come at the venue to attend a wedding.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje visited the wedding hall that collapsed last night at the Annapurna Marriage Home located on Sewar road in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur.

District Magistrate N.K. Gupta said that the incident was triggered due to a thunderstorm and rainfall in the district.

“To protect themselves from the rain, some guests tried to stand under a wall, which subsequently collapsed, killing 22 and injuring over 28 people, out of which two have been critically injured. They have been hospitalised and are being attended to by a team of doctors,” he said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje visited Bharatpur to control the situation and support  the bereaved families, in whatever way possible. She also met the injured persons in the hospital and  assured them of full cooperation and support from government. CM Raje announced an amount of Rs 2 lac for the bereaved families.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the deaths of innocent people who succumbed to death due to the negligence of hotel officials. PM also announced a sum of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, while a sum of Rs 50,000 was announced for those seriously injured.

Superintendent of Police Anil Tank informed that the owner of the venue has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Tank also said that a comprehensive check of marriage homes and gardens in Bharatpur will be conducted to ensure that safety and security measures are in place.

A marriage function was underway in the hall when the thunderstorm hit the area, police said. For shelter, people rushed to a long wall which suddenly collapsed. The 90-feet long and 12-13 feet wall’s structure along with its shed collapsed suddenly after the thunderstorm.

“The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals immediately and treatment was administered. One injured has been referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur,’ he said.
