Cyclone Ockhi: Mumbai Rains lead to close of Schools

There are heavy rains in Mumbai due to cyclone Ockhi. In fact, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis’s government has declared holidays for schools and colleges in Mumbai and nearby cities today. This happened as Indian Meteorological Department made a forecast for unpleasant weather conditions in Mumbai due to Cyclone Ockhi.

There is even tweet by state Education Minister Vinod Tawde. “Precautionary holiday declared on 5/12/17 for schools and colleges in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Sindhudurg, Thane, Raigad and Palghar Districts for the safety of the students due to the serious weather predictions on #CycloneOckhi #MumbaiRains.”

There are reports of heavy rains in particular areas of Mumbai. Even it is expected that Mumbai will receive more rains in next 48 hours. The officials also said that wind velocity can be 50-60km/hour in these 48 hours.

There is also advisory warning by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). It advised people to stay away from beaches due to cyclone. There will be high tides on beach which will make sea beaches unsafe. There is alert on Western Railway’s engineering control to keep a watch on water level over railway tracks. The Disaster Management Cell of the city has also become active.
