After doormats, it’s time for flip-flops to be driven out of Amazon

Amazon has been in controversies in the recent past. Big face in India, Sushma Swaraj being implicitly involved in the legalaties of the case, and combinedly making it to a rage on Twitter.

Not many days have passed, when Amazon withdrew a tri-coloured doormat, which was notoriously identified as having an Indian flag on it. This was ofcourse derogatory and hence the requisite action was taken by the relevant authorities. All Indians indubiously appreciated this action.

The e-commerce giant has now also withdrawn flip-flops which have the picture of Mahatma Gandhi embossed on it.

“We have been in touch with Amazon both in Washington as well as in Delhi and we have had constructive conversations,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said to media.

“I am happy to report that the offending item has since been pulled by Amazon and we hope that our engagement will continue to be fruitful,” he added.

Sushma Swaraj took up the cause on Twitter, responding to one of the hundreds of people who petitioned her to demand action from Canadian authorities.

Post a slew of petitions demanding an immediate pull out of flags with an Indian flag embossd on it from Amazon Canada portal, External Affairs Minister said.

“Amazon must tender unconditional apology. They must withdraw all products insulting our national flag immediately,” Swaraj exhorted in a tweet.

“If this is not done forthwith, we will not grant Indian visa to any Amazon official. We will also rescind the visas issued earlier,” she added.

Amazon reacted to the substantial complaints and comments really signifying that Amazon has channelized activities which are derogatory for India and it’s reputation.

Amazon then expressed deep regrets to Sushma Swaraj. The company eeked apologies  for hurting Indian sensibilities.

“At no time did we intend or mean to offend Indian sentiments,” it said.

Amazon claimed that it immensely values its relationship with the Indian government, the country’s entrepreneurs and innovators, Indian customers and employees. “Amazon is committed to respecting Indian laws and customs. To the extend that these items offered by a third-party seller in Canada offended Indian sensibilities, Amazon regrets the same,” it said.

Dorr mats have been ousted, and now flip-flop is in the pipeline, our guessing point is still strong wondering as to which article or group of products will now be spotted and ousted from Amazon portal.
