Floods in various parts of the country have wrecked havoc with two persons being killed in Rajasthan and Gujarat evacuating close to 25000 people.

In Gujarat, over 10000 people were shifted to safer locations in Banaskantha district, nearly 9790 to Patan and 2800 to Ahmedabad. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani conducted review meetings and said that the large inflow of water into rivers and dams in Banaskantha and Patan were caused by heavy rains in neighboring Rajasthan. The desert state saw heavy rains in Jalore, Pali and Sirohi districts which caused the flood, leaving several people stranded. The road and railway networks have also been affected in the region.

Army, IAF, and NDRF (National Disaster Relief Force) teams have been called in for rescue and relief operations. These rescue teams are ensuring that all the people living in the low lying areas are safely relocated and there is no damage to the mankind. Three helicopters of the Air Force have also been kept ready in Deesa town in Banaskantha.

Banaskantha and Patan districts are the ones that are hugely affected due to the heavy rains in north Gujarat and Rajasthan. Dantiwada and Sipu dams are overflowing. As a result of releasing the water from these dams the people living in around 100 villages in the low lying areas have been shifted to safer places.

Apart from relocating the people, the administration is also making arrangements for the distribution of food packets to the affected people. The government has also decided to postpone the Narmada Mahotsav and delay the Heritage Festival in Ahmadabad.

In Rajasthan, the state government has already declared an alert about possible floods in six districts after the IMD (India Meteorological Department) forecasted extremely heavy rainfall in the northern regions of the state. The districts forecasted with heavy rainfall include Keonjhar, Jaipur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh.
