Google doodle pays tribute to Sergei Eisenstein ‘The Father of Montage’

Today’s Google Doodle is dedicated to father of montage in filmmaking Sergei Eisenstein. It is 120th birthday anniversary of Soviet film director Sergei Eisenstein. He was born on 22 January, 1898. in Latvia. He had studied architecture and engineering and worked in Red army. He developed interest in theatre and began to work as a designer in Moscow.

In the doodle presented by Google for Sergei Eisenstein has a series of film rolls in movement. In this, it shows iconic imagery in some of Mr Eisenstein’s films. This doodle is basically the sequencing of a number of images in a continuous loop which creates the effect of a montage.

‘Montage of attractions’, a new art is also created by Sergei Eisenstein. In this, images are chosen and then carefully placed sequentially so they would create a larger psychological impact thus communicating his idea to the audience.

He also made film on the struggle of downtrodden workers against the ruling class. Sergei Eisenstein had achieved much acclaim for his montage, camera angles and crowd movements from the world. His first full-length feature film, ‘Strike’ released in 1925. His popular works include Fight Club, The Karate Kid, The Godfather and Citizen Kane.
