Rahul Dravid, who is unarguably the most loved cricketers in India, turns 45 today. Born on 11th January 1973, Dravid started playing cricket at the age of 12 and went on to become one of the most successful cricketers of the nation. Known as Mr. Dependable and The Wall, he is also known as Jammy as he loves eating jam and his father used to work at the Kissan factory.
Dravid is the only Indian player to score four consecutive centuries in test match innings. Besides, he also became the only non-Australian player to deliver Bradman Oration in the year 2012. Not just this, the player has made several unbeatable records like most number of catches (210) taken by any player in Test Cricket as of 2012.
In addition, Dravid has a unique record that he never got dismissed for a Golden duck in the 286 Test innings played by him. He has faced the highest number of balls (31258) and has spent the maximum time (44152 minutes) on the crease in test cricket. Rahul Dravid has been honored with Padma Shri as well as Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian Cricket.
Currently, Dravid is serving as the coach of India’s Under-19 cricket team which has already got a positive start by winning the warm-up match against South Africa by 189 runs.
Interestingly, when he was roped in for the position of the head coach for the senior Cricket Team, he said that he would work for the junior team. He never cares about the big money and fame; rather he just stays away from the limelight and is loved for the same.
Much like Rahul, his son Sambit is showcasing his talent at the game nowadays in the Under-14 tournament. Just two days ahead of Rahul’s birthday, his son smashed a stupendous score of 150. Earlier, he had also scored 125 runs for Bangalore United Cricket Club while playing in the Tiger Cup Cricket Tournament.
