Haryana Madrasa Case: IV Class student chained for skipping homework and classes

As we grow up and start to live our lives with an ‘independent’ tag pinned on us wherever we go, with the jobs and its responsibilities on our head, with bill paying deadlines threatening us, there is this in-evident memory which keeps coming back to us. Memories of our childhood, or our school time and the fun-filled lives we lived back then. We all wish to go back and live it all once more don’t we?

Now this specialty is what our school life was imprinted with but what if we tell you that a recent incident in Haryana has completely marred this wonderful image of school for a fourth class student.

The child, who is in IV standard, didn’t do his homework, which is a normal thing for a little boy like him. But the punishment he received for this little act is atrocious. He was allegedly chained at his school Nushrat Ali Islamic Madrasa, in Haryana. We don’t think any student be it young or teenage, deserves a corporal punishment like this. It is absolutely unacceptable, especially from teachers who are the guiding light in a student’s life.

The boy was later rescued by his father who like any other parent filed a complaint against such heartless teachers. It was during the initial phase of the investigation that we got to know that the same boy has been regularly chained before so that he does not bunk classes.

The teachers having an audacity to defend themselves said that “the boy fled home from the Madrasa on Monday without completing his school work and that’s why he had been chained as a disciplinary action.

We did it to stop him from fleeing home during school hours.”

The police registered a case against Sabir and Mubarak the two teachers of the madrasa under various Sections of the IPC, including 506 and the Juvenile Justice Act. But reportedly no one has been arrested so far. Meanwhile, Satpal Kaur, the chairperson of district child welfare committee has formed a team to investigate the incident.
