The state of Odisha is curbed in the clutches of Dengue disease. The situation is reaching an alarming proportion with more than 600 positive cases till date. May it be, Bhubaneswar, Balasore or Cuttack. By Monday, there were over 17 fresh cases reported in Cuttack. The Health and Family Welfare Minister expressed his concern over the situation and directed the task force team to visit all the dengue-affected areas of the state and take proper medicinal measures to ease the situation and help the suffering people. Also, they are taking measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
The panic triggered due to the spread of the disease is making the situation tensed among the Odisha masses with 654 people tested positive so far along with one death due to the infection. The officials reported that they have created separate cells in all the government hospitals and colleges for the treatment of dengue-infectious people. The Health Minister added that additional doctors have been engaged with the hospitals to deal with the situation.
The tensed situation created due to the negligence of the health ministry was being discouraged and BJP activists could be seen protesting in Balasore. They were detained by the police when they attempted to show black flag to state health minister Atanu S Nayak.
A review meeting was being held by the Heath Minister where Health Department Secretary Arti Ahuja and National Health Mission (NHM) Director joined him to have a review of the situation. Also, as the dengue cases continue to rise, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation(CMC) has intensified its awareness and cleanliness drive among the society. The most affected area is Jagatpur manufacturing unit where preventive measures have been taken by CMC and had issued a notice to the soft drink manufacturing companies to not dispose of their empty bottle stock and other garbage, which could possibly turn into mosquito breeding area. But, due to lack of facilities and medical help, the health condition is deteriorating in the state which is a matter of serious consideration.
