On the second day of GES 2017 co-hosted by NITI Aayog and US government, a panel discussion was held on the issue of ‘Workforce Development and Skills Training’. The GES 2017 is the 8th edition of the summit whereby, women are representing more than 52.5% of entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem supporters.

The panel discussion which focused on women empowerment had Ms. Ivanka Trump, Chanda Kochar (ICICI Bank MD & CEO), Cherie Blaire (founder of Cherie Blair Foundation), and Karen Quintos (Dell, EMC, Chief Customer Officer). The panel was moderated by Minister for IT E&C KT Rama Rao. While the central topic of discussion was women entrepreneurs all the three ladies presented their views.
Ms. Ivanka Trump stated that since women contribute to half of the population, the women issues must be considered as critical issues. She also said that there should be policies that support modern working families and more men should work in women-related fields while more women should be involved in the STEM field.

She also pointed out that equal gender representation is vital not only as a social responsibility but also to boost the businesses financially. She said that technology plays a crucial role in removing barriers and drives women to start their own businesses, thereby empowering them.
Other major concerns as discussed by the panel included the biases and prejudices existing in the society. While Cherie pointed out that men must understand that women are equal, Karen said that men should be a part of such conversations. Besides, Chanda Kochar emphasized on equal opportunities and favorable policies for women.
