Mary Kom won Asian women boxing championship for 5th time

Mary Kom has again written the glorious chapter of her life with the fifth gold medal won at the Asian women’s boxing championships. She is 34 and kicked off her career in the ring again. Although she had not won any medal from long so this is a great comeback for her. Perhaps, it was thought that she had dropped her gloves. But her victory at the Asian women’s boxing championships in Ho Chi Minh City says a new story.

She had not won any Gold medal after Incheon Games held on year 2014. Mary Kom had been fighting in the 51 kg category for the past three years. The decision to returning to her favoured 48kg category proved right as it’s her first international championship in the new weight class. She won the medal by beating Kim Hyang Hi of North Korea with 5-0.

Mary Kom’s statement on winning 5th Gold
After this won at Asian Games, Mary Kom said,“Coming back and winning a gold medal after many years is not an easy thing because I have lot of responsibilities. But I wanted to make a comeback and make my nation proud once again. The crowd was cheering for me and it certainly brought back memories for me. The most important thing for me was to get back in the ring. And to win in 48 Kg category, which was my weight category for many years previously is a positive thing for me.”

Mary Kom is proud of her achievements and aims to win Gold in Olympics for India. She also aims to undertake her duty of MP which she gained through her hard work. She also credited new Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president Ajay Singh for her return to the ring. In fact, her coach is also proud of her efforts and this latest achievement.

This victory of Mary Kom gave reason to India to celebrate again. On winning the 5th Gold medal at Asian Games, PM Modi also congratulated her. Mary Kom is mother of three and a Rajya Sabha MP too.
