Nuts are capable of reducing your Inflammation

A healthy lifestyle nowadays is very difficult to attain. The growing stress, regular hangouts and parties and lots of Junk food had made people vulnerable to various types of diseases. In a study of 5,000 people, it was found that the consumption of nuts will help you in reducing the levels of inflammation. This may be explained as health benefits of consuming nuts.

The different types of nuts like Peanuts and tree nuts are said to contain a large number of healthy components which include magnesium, fiber, L-arginine, antioxidants and all unsaturated fatty acids such as a-linolenic acid.

A total of five or more nuts consumption per week or substituting nuts for animal proteins which are tied to a healthy profile of inflammatory biomarkers, the findings showed.

“Population studies have consistently supported a protective role of nuts against cardiometabolic disorders such as cardiovascular disease and Type-2 diabetes, and we know that inflammation is a key process in the development of these diseases,” said the corresponding author Ying Bao from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. “Our new work suggests that nuts may exert their beneficial effects in part by reducing systemic inflammation,” Bao explained. In an earlier study, Bao and her team of colleagues have observed a link between the increased consumption of nuts and the reduced risk of the major chronic diseases, even death. But the future prospective cohort studies had examined the connection between nut intake and inflammation.

In the current study, a cross-sectional study on the Nurses’ Health Study have been conducted, including more than 1,20,000 registered female nurses and on the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, which inculcates more than 50,000 male health professionals. Bao’s team carried out a regular assessment of diet using questionnaires and analyzed the levels of certain telltale proteins known as biomarkers in the blood samples which were collected from the participants of the research.

Then, they measured all the three well-established biomarkers of inflammation, i.e., C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin 6 (IL6) and tumor necrosis factor receptor 2 (TNFR2). After adjusting the results for age, previous medical history, current lifestyle and other variables, they found out that those participants who had consumed 5 or more nuts per week had lower levels of C-reactive protein and interleukin 6 than those whose nuts intake was nearly negligible.

In addition, the people who substituted three servings per week of nuts in place of red meat, processed meat, eggs or refined grains had shown significantly lower levels of biomarkers of inflammation. This study is very helpful for people who suffer from higher inflammation. The study was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. So, everybody, who is health conscious and wants to stay healthy, should add at least 5 pieces of nuts to their diet.
