A recent petition filed in Pakistani Court claims that Kohinoor should be brought back into Pakistan, this petition urges Pakistan Government to put efforts in bringing back the world famous diamond Kohinoor, which actually belongs to India and is presently a part of Crown Queen Elizabeth-II showcased in museum in UK.

Petitioner barrister Jawaid Iqbal Jafree in his petition alleged before Lahore High Court, that the then east India company had snatched diamond from Daleep Singh, grandson of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh and transported it to Britain.

Jafree while speaking to Pakistani media said “The diamond became part of the crown of incumbent Queen Elizabeth-II at the time of her crowing in 1953. Queen Elizabeth has no right on the Kohinoor diamond, which weighs 105 carats and worth billions of rupees.”

“Kohinoor diamond was cultural heritage of Punjab province and its citizens owned it in fact,” added Jafree.

The Kohinoor diamond was actually mined during the medieval times from Kollur mine in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district of India in 13th century. During that period Kohinoor was considered as largest diamond of the world, it is important to mention that Kohinoor is 105 carat diamond which is worth billions of Indian rupees.

The diamond remained in the ownership of Kakatiya Dynasty, who had installed it as eye of Hindu goddess in a temple. Thereafter, diamond has changed many hands which included Mughal Emperors, Persian Empire and finally reached in hands of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh.

After the British forces conquered Sikh Empire in 1849, this precious diamond was transferred in the treasury of East India Company.

The Indian Government is already making all its efforts to re-gain the ownership of Kohinoor, saying that it was illegally acquired and should be returned along with treasures appropriated during the colonial rule.

As a matter of fact when Queen Elizabeth-II visited India on 50th Anniversary of Indian independence in 1997, many Indians and British Indians demanded the return of diamond. In 2010 when British Prime Minster David Cameron visited India, said in an interview telecasted on Indian media that the diamond will stay in London.

Most recently Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited UK, personally asked David Cameron for returning back of Kohinoor, as it is a property of India and its natives.
