Chennai’s fight against the flood and waterlogged road and water submerged houses received support from Google; it has created a Crisis Response Tool named as “South India Flooding”. The tool is build to provide access to helpline numbers; crowd sourced lists of places and people providing shelters; maps of crowd sourced flooded streets and other important information to its users.

Apart from these important details, this tool also embeds tweets, updated news and videos of flooded areas of Chennai. Along with this features “South India Flooding” tool also has a spreadsheet, which will be helpful in locating relied and rescue related information. In addition this spreadsheet also has detailed info about the where locals and find basic necessities.

The document has been shared by large number of people on various social media platforms in past two days, detailing around 220 locations in the city. The initiative has provided a great to rescue the victims of flood affected areas.

However, number of residents have reportedly said that there mobile phones are out of charge, due the power cut-off done for the sake of safety during the heavy rain conditions.
