PM Modi reached Manila for attending the ASEAN-India and East Asia summits where he will propagate benefits of boosting regional trade. PM Modi will also reinstate India’s global approach towards eliminating terrorism.
ASEAN India summit will revolve around enveloping tension emerging on the world front. North Korea’s nuclear missile tests, disputed South China sea among other major issues will be discussed at the summit.
Not only this, PM Modi is also expected to have a multitude of one-to-one meetings with prime ministers of different countries. These countries include USA, Australia, Russia, Japan. The participants of these meetings will be US President Donald Trump, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Russian Premier Dmitry Medvedev and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
“Every single country in the ASEAN region wants India to be more engaged in the region in every possible way. That is the real synergy we have with ASEAN,” Indian Ambassador to Philippines Jaideep Mazumdar told to media.
Alongside, a host of other leaders will arrive at the summit. These will include Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, k, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Raza.
This time ASEAN summit is no ordinary summit. It is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Although ASEAN is a congregation of 10 major countries for boosting trade and business, the leaders will be expected to talk about various other issues like terrorism, curbing money laundering non-proliferation and migration.
Apart from the 10 ASEAN Member states, East Asia Summit includes India, China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Russia.
If reports are to be believed, India is in talks with ASEAN members to host an international conference on countering radicalization. Delhi is toying with different dates to conduct the conclave.
