Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Urban): More than 2.67 Lakh Houses Sanctioned by the Centre

The centre has recently approved the construction of more than 2.67 Lakh affordable houses for the urban poor in 10 states. These houses have been approved under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Urban) in states like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Around 2,67,546 housing units have been sanctioned constituting of more than 50,000 housing units for 3 states.

After this sanction, the total number of houses to be funded under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna would be 53,74,306. he approval was given in a meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee of PMAY (U) held under the chairmanship of Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra.

Discussing the number of houses allotted to each state, Madhya Pradesh has got approval for 59,421 houses followed by Gujarat with 55,296 houses and Maharashtra with 52,935 houses. Moving on, Uttar Pradesh has been sanctioned 36,370 houses, West Bengal with 26,604, Bihar with 15,924, and 8,600 have been allocated for Rajasthan. These are followed by Chhattisgarh (7,961), Punjab (2,442) and Uttarakhand (1,993).

As per the officials, a total of around INR 13,78.81 Crores will be incurred to execute these housing projects under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category. Moreover, the ministry has said that the central assistance worth INR 3919.32 Crores will be provided for the execution of these housing projects.
