“Can’t stay away from Punjab” says Navjot Singh Siddhu

The former Indian cricketer and former Member of Parliament, Navjot Singh Sidhu from Amritsar have finally spoken on the current political situation going on these days in Punjab. The excellent orator has joined politics after retirement from Indian Cricket and has a habit of giving highlights to media in short spans. Also, he made news as a permanent guest on the very famous comedy show “The Kapil Sharma Show” which was formerly known as “Comedy Nights with Kapil”.

This time, he is in news from quite a time for resigning from the Parliament on July 18th, 2016. His wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu has also resigned from the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on the same day. The reasons since that day were not defined leading to several speculations in the Indian Politics. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was also showing signs of making Sidhu a part of their party. Even AAP supremo, Arvind Kejriwal was seen making positive comments about the joining of Sidhu and his wife into his party.

After the whole situation of dilemma and speculations, the former member of Rajya Sabha, addressed the Indian media in a Press Conference held in Delhi at his residence today and breached his silence over the issue and clarified his side of the story. He said that “I resigned because I was told you won’t look towards Punjab. How can Navjot Sidhu leave his people?” He further added that “Even a bird comes back to its nest, then how can Navjot Sidhu leave his home, his people? How can I not think of Punjab? No party is greater or supreme to Punjab.” His statements were powerful and gesture tensed over the whole incident that he is going through. In his statements, he had put the betterment of Punjab on the top most priority in comparison to anything in the world, even his family and friends.

“If this was the 1st time, I could have still tolerated. But it is the 3rd or 4th time that this has happened. I was told to fight election from Kurukshetra, then West Delhi. I said no, I won’t betray my people” Sidhu expressed. During the whole conference, Sidhu was seen quoting about the welfare of Punjab to be his main goal.

Now, when Navjot Singh Sidhu has clarified his part but things are even not clear to people that whether he has quit BJP, joined AAP or wished to be a Punjab CM candidate. This press conference has clearly stated the motive of Sidhu that he would not fight elections from anywhere else but Punjab and if BJP doesn’t give him a ticket from Punjab, he might look forward to the other options as well.

For now, we may only have a look at the everyday changing politics of Punjab and its effects on the Punjab elections. Also, it would be quite interesting to witness this new innings of this former cricketer in the Indian Politics.
