Falling into the footsteps of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh that have adorned their respective river shores with glittering elements to boost the overall aesthetic value, Rajasthan government is set to beautify Chittorgarh’s Gambhir River. Taking a cue from the lucrative earnings of the Sabarmati and Gomti riverfronts that are now well-acclaimed picnic spots, the DLB (directorate of local bodies) delivered an excellent presentation regarding this proposal.

Chittorgarh Counts on Gambhir Riverfront for Tourism Revenues

This Monday, UDH (Urban Development and Housing) minister Srichand Kriplanai expressed the CM’s vision of developing Gambhir riverfront into an international tourist spot of high value. For those who don’t know, the Gambhir River covers 3 kilometers region in Chittorgarh district. It features a bridge of great historical value. This entire region flourishes on the historical tales of the legendary Rajput king Maharana Pratap.

To glorify the long-lost history of Rajasthan, the government has decided to restore the riverside beauty. The government will shortly open tenders for this project to invite bids from private contractors.

In the first phase of Gambhir Riverfront project, the proposed area of 1600 meter will be revamped. The estimated budget for restoration is Rs 13 crores. The officers have proposed the construction of children’s park, herbal park, yoga garden, cycle track, parking space, open-air gym, boating as a part of this project.

Manjit Singh, LSG (Local Self Government) principal secretary will develop this project on PPP (Public private partnership) mode. If all goes well, the project will be completed within a year. This project will restore the tourism value of Chittorgarh. Hopefully, it’ll bring in more foreign tourists in future. The JDA is likely to start restorative work of Dravyavati river, as well.

Seeing that illegal encroachment and construction has significantly increased along the riverbeds, this move will discourage unregulated constructors from treating land as their personal property. Lately, several factories have started using the river periphery as dumping ground for wastes. Hopefully this project will conserve the valuable natural resources and restore the long-lost beauty of river.
