Rajasthan’s 1st milk bank benefits more than 15,000 infants in just 3 years

It was three years back when Divya Mother Milk Banks was started in Rajasthan’s white city, Udaipur. Now after great hard work over an even greater idea, the milk bank has achieved such great success. It has collected close to 20,000 units of milk from 3,000 donors, being as advantageous to more than 1,500 infants who otherwise would have otherwise have suffered dearth of breast feeding.

This bank is a first one not only in Rajasthan but also in North India itself. It faced a lot of speculations before its implementation and now with such good results, it has shut all those anti agitators who stood against it 3 years back.

Devendra Agrawal, the man behind the milk bank said, “Divya Mother Milk Bank has been providing clinical human milk bank service since its inception. The bank gives breast milk to sick, premature babies which is essential factor for the infant’s survival, recovery and optimum growth,”

Unlike previous times, now women are voluntarily coming to donate milk for the needy ones. The idea is mainly when a mother is unable to contribute breast milk to meet her baby’s dietary requirements; donated human milk is the next greatest choice for her baby. Thus, DMMB has been established to provide parents the choice of donated breast milk when the mother’s milk is unavailable.

“A survey by the Rajasthan government, found 42 per cent of newborns in the state were undernourished and needed mother’s milk,” Agrawal said. For such a situation this bank is nothing less than a god gift.

The milk collectors working in the bank are properly trained and they function with utmost care when it comes to taking the milk and storing it in the best health conditions. This particular milk is to help those mothers who are not able to provide their newborns with breast milk.
