Rima Kallingal talks about discrimination in Malayalam Film industry

Malayalam actor Rima Kallingal believes in speaking her mind. She is also one of the founding members of the Women in Cinema Collective. At TedX in Thiruvananthapuram, she gave a ted talk about the discrimination in the Malayalam films. Her question was also on the patriarchy system in Indian society.

Rima talked about the prevailing pay disparity amongst male and female actors and the roles offered to the actresses in Mollywood. She also narrated an incident of her childhood where the men of the houses were given priority. Later she quoted an unfair incident of her being banned theatre owners’ union.

Her speech also included the questions why women have been given less opportunities at work place. She also talked about the factors that affect their careers. Rima didn’t even shy to talk about comments made on actresses on social media sites. She well explained the abusive remarks for an actress and that is deplorable. She also threw light on actresses to be considered as an object of sexual play.

In her talk, Rima also raises the case of the Malayalam actress who was molested in February 2017 and the way the film industry reacted on it. Watch her video to know why she has become feminist.
