The UN Human Rights Review Meet Massively Discussed the Growing Racism In The Country

At the recently held, UN Human Rights review meeting, India has been heavily scrutinized over its piling concerns on the minority fights in the country. The review meeting is organsied in every four years in Geneva. In this year’s meeting, many participating countires stated that India is facing an ambigious conflicts of racism, women rights protection and over so much of religious intolerance also.

Issues like racism and woman rights protection are quite prevalent in the country these days. The other point of concern is regarding India’s Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. The third “Universal Periodic Review” meet proved to be very taunting for India as Pakistan was very prompt to point at India.

The Attorney General Mukul Rohtagi replied to Pakistan and made a stark oppose to the statements made by Pakistan. He mentioned that, India has always been secular region and takes responsibility of protecting rights of every individual.

The UNHRC said, ““The right to fair trial and free legal aid up to the highest court are enshrined as fundamental rights in the Constitution of India and thus guaranteed to all individuals”.

He further added, “So much so that as the Attorney General of India, I was summoned by the Supreme Court at 2 am in the morning to hear a last-ditch petition, after several rounds of litigation, by a convict who was guilty of terrorism to escape punishment (This was a reference to the Yakub Memon case). This shows the importance attached to upholding of human rights by India”.

The highlighted issue was over increasing racism in the country. However, Rohtagi spoke some important points on transgender rights. Rohtagi mentioned that the transgenders have been given equal rights and have also been considered to be added to “OBC” category.

Despite of the growing racism and criticism over this, India is trying on all sides explore the developmental probables of the country. The government is working extensively to not let human traffic prmote and expand.
