The Unnao Rape Case which came into public attention in the early stages of 2018 has grabbed limelight once again after the rape case survivor was involved in a major accident near Unnao-Lalganj section of NH 232 area on Sunday noon. She was accompanied by her mother, her aunt and her lawyer Mahendra Singh on her visit to Rae Bareilly jail where her uncle, Mahesh Singh, is entrenched. When they were nearing the NH 232 area their car collided with a truck, resulting in death of her lawyer and her aunt, who was a key witness in this case. Her mother is currently under treatment at Lucknow Trauma Centre and her condition is said to be critical. The victim also suffered some freakish injuries but her condition, in comparison to her mother, is better.
Interesting thing to notice about this accident is the timing of it. The accident occured two weeks after the rejection of bail plea of accused Shashi Singh, an abettor of MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, by the Allahabad High Court. According to Shashi, at the time of rape the MLA was no way near the crime scene and her involvment in the case is also not proved, in this scenario, she should be granted bail. In reply to this, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stated that the victim has mentioned Shashi in her statement and that is good enough to reject Shashi’s bail.
What is the Case??
This case sufaced on the national platform when the rape survivor came into public and accused UP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of raping her at his residence in July 2017. After a few months time, her father was arrested under the Arms Act in April, 2018. In reaction to this, she tried to commit self-immolation outside the residence of UP CM Yogi Adityanath on August 8, 2018. The very next day it was reported that her father was attacked by some men in the jail and due to some fatal injuries caused by this beating, he succumed to death.
This case has taken a lot of twists and turns since it has caught the eye of national public.
