World Milk Day is observed annually on June 1 to recognize the importance of milk and its health benefits. It was established by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of United Nations in 2001. The day is dedicated to activities that are connected to the dairy sector.

This year the Global Dairy Platform has carried out a campaign called “Raise a Glass” with the hasthtag #WorldMilkDay. There are several activities and events organized across the world to spread awareness about the importance of milk and dairy products. Although the official date is June 1, many countries celebrate it a week before or after this day, depending on their choice.

Milk is a rather inseparable from our lives right from the moment we are born. It’s the first thing that babies are fed with and is crucial in the initial stages of development. Besides, it can provide healing abilities when combined with turmeric and it also maintains the correct PH balance of the body without which the body would turn acidic.

Clearly, we all know how beneficial milk is but it’s also considered to have adverse effects on health. However, the truth is that milk is in itself a great source of nutrition but the source from where you are consuming it should also be right. Reportedly, the factory production is often harmful as the cows are injected with antibiotics and hormones to increase the yield.

However, contrary to the belief that everyone must consume milk, the fact is that many people who simply don’t like milk or are lactose intolerant can opt for alternatives of milk. These options include Broccoli, cabbage, whole grains, legumes, Kale, and nuts. If you are a vegetarian and don’t consume dairy products, then you must consume these foods to ensure that your body gets the necessary nutrients.
