The World Toilet day is a virtuous celebration of Sanitation . The Sustainable Development Goals, launched in 2015, include a target to ensure everyone everywhere has access to toilets by 2030. This makes sanitation a global development priority.In 2013, the United Nations General Assembly officially designated November 19 as World Toilet Day. World Toilet Day is coordinated by UN-Water in collaboration with governments and partners.

The backdrop and focus of the World Toilet Day is ‘ Toilets and Jobs ‘. It signifies the fact that the dearth of Toilets and proper sanitation can make or break a nation’s prosperity. Major Impetus is given to Toilets as they are pivotal in ensuring financial growth and development of a nation . Hence , a correlation between hygiene , financial development and mental peace is maintained through the essence of this day .  Toilets play a paramount role in formulating a strong economy, along with improvising health and safeguarding people’s dignity, categorically for women’s and girls’.

Kerala becomes first high density populated state in the country to achieve Open Defecation Free status.” Meanwhile, a source said three more states — Gujarat, Haryana and Uttarakhand — will soon be announcing themselves as ODF .Moreover, there are still unknown facts which you would want to know at a macro scale. Did you know that 2.4 billion People live without improved sanitation (World Health Organization (WHO)/UNICEF 2015)? It is heartbreaking to hear that poor sanitation and unsafe water causes Diarrhoea and  kills 315,000 children every year .

 One in ten people has no choice but to defecate in the open (WHO/UNICEF 2015). Not many would know that disease transmission at work is mostly caused by poor sanitation and hygiene practices, causing 17% of all workplace deaths (International Labour Organization (ILO) 2003).

Why not make hygiene and sanitation our top priority ? Its high time we do . Lets pledge to join hands for a clean India to celebrate this day today. If we stand together , we can make a difference . And we will.
