Beating N.C. Goel and D.B. Goel in the power race, Mr. Ashok Jain bagged the new position of Rajasthan chief secretary. As an IAS officer, Jain is known for his sincerity and work efficiency. Despite these qualities, the newly elected chief secretary will stay at this post for just 7 months. He’s likely to retire in January 2018.

For those who don’t know, Mr. Jain joined the Indian administration service in 1981. Being chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s first preference, Jain will replace Meena after his retirement. The decision of appointing him as the chief secretary was by the chief minister herself. Raje called in a meeting with Jain on Friday evening, wherein she decided to hand over the new job to Jain. Currently, Jain serves as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Social Justice, Rajasthan.

Besides being the chief election officer, Jain has efficiently managed the government proceedings in various departments. According to the sources, he was a prime contender for CS in past. Unfortunately, Meena beat him to this post last time.

Besides Meena, many senior IAS officers including ACS Gurjeet Kaur (HCM RIPA), ACS N.C Goyal (Environment, forest, and Tourism department) and ACS D.B. Gupta (Infrastructure) have contested in this race.
