After several desperate attempts of the Jaipur Railway Metro Corporation (JMRC), it has finally achieved success in earning additional income. This is possible by leasing out space for advertisements inside and outside the metro trains.
The corporation has finally issued the letter of acceptance to the firms. The process was based on bidding. The firms who won the bid to display advertisements inside the train and metro stations are finally being issued by the letter of acceptance. The firm will have to pay Rs 26 lakh per annum for displaying the advertisement in trains. The space inside the metro station is leased out on Rs 2 crore.
C S Jeengar, the director of JMRC in a statement stated that their non-fare box revenue will be doubled in contrast to what they are earning presently. At present they are earning approximately Rs 2 crore per annum. However, after renting space for advertisements inside trains and station, they will earn Rs 4.5 crore per annum.
After achieving success in this initiative the JMRC is also planning to invite tender to rent a space for advertisements on Metro pillars.
Earlier the JMRC and Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) had already disagreed over the right of metro pillars. The JMRC earlier claimed that it would earn additional income from advertisement. This additional income could be utilized for metro operations. But Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation failed to bring in the benefits.
However, the JMRC is endlessly exploring other ways to earn revenue, after witnessing continuous fall in the second year of its operations.
Besides this proposal, the corporation has also drafted a proposal which includes leasing out space at all nine stations to open 50 retail shops. This proposal has been currently forwarded to the state government for final approval. Through this proposal, the JMRC is expecting to earn revenue of Rs 9 crore per annum after leasing out space for the 50 retail shops.
