La La Land wins Oscars 2017 Best Movie by MISTAKE

Oscars was live and wild. It was being conducted with intense zing and fervor. There was this last and the most awaited award: Best Picture. There came the announcers and with them came an envelope which had winner’s name written on it. Perhaps one more thing accompanied them: Blunder.

For the Best Picture award, came Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway who looked as pleasant as ever. Warren was apparently indulging in surprise pangs or perhaps  he could not believe what was written. Not only this, Beatty took repeated glances at Dunaway. For all audience and onlookers, it was rather funny and absurd moment, especially the probable contenders: La  La Land and Moonlight.

As a winner would do, the whole team came onto the stage. People were applauding their movie, while movie producers flocked in numbers to deliver their not-so-long speeches. Well, just while they were speaking, in the backdrop was another story altogether. Within a couple of minutes of announcement, there was a huge commotion at the back. Oscar officials rushed to the stage and snatched the envelope from Beatty. The producers of the La La Land film handled the mistake with optimum grace.

La La Land producer, Beatty held up the envelope with Moonlight’s name on it.  He then delivered a clarifying statement, thereby claiming that it was really not intended to make a joke. He addressed the audience, “I want to tell you what happened. I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, La La Land. That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”

Beatty was handed over a wrong envelope which said Best Actress Award: Emma Stone.

The Moonlight team came up on the stage to receive the award confidently, some of them still doubting if it was a joke.

Here is the list of major Oscar winners:

The 2017 OSCAR Best Actress In a Leading Role was awarded to Emma Stone for portraying Mia in La La Land.

Emma first thanked the other nominees in her category, which include Isabelle Huppert, Ruth Negga, Natalie Portman and Meryl Streep. “You are all so extraordinary and I look up to you and I admire you more than I can put into words,” said Stone. At the outset, she grabbed the opportunity to thank her family and friends. She added, “I’m going to hug the hell out of you when the feeling re-enters my body.”

For whatever it was on the stage, the 2017 Oscars night will be imprinted in the history of Oscars. There have been a major glitch of this sort at the Miss Universe pageant too in 2015 by Steve Harvey. While it is a pack of fun for the audience, we are still empathetic for the wrong-called candidate.
