One more time, external affair minister Sushma Swaraj diligently performed her duty. Swaraj intervened to get medical visa for Egyptian woman without any hassles. The Egyptian woman is considered as world’s heaviest woman and wanted to come to India for her treatment.
Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala mentioned to medical news website that, ” I am mighty impressed with the promptness shown by the minister even though she is fighting kidney failure and is hospitalized. Thanks to her, Iman will now be in Mumbai by next week”.
After receiving a tweet from the doctor, Swaraj put all efforts to make through the visa arrangement for Egyptian woman, within the time period of 24 hours. The doctor had mentioned in the tweet that, the Indian Embassy in Cairo had denied to provide visa to Abdulati who is immovable from her house in Alexandria and travel because of her heavy weight.
Now, the woman, Abdulati will be airlifted from her place to Mumbai for her treatment.
As per the statements of Lakdawala, “For 20 years, she didn’t step out of her house. Her family had tried many doctors there for medical help but were denied. It was her sister who got in touch with me after she heard of me from a family friend, (on) whom I had operated for obesity”.
In Egypt, the physicians had mentioned to Al Arabiya.net site that Abdulati is a patient of disruption of glands and parasite called elephantiasis. Because of disruption in glands, she suffers from storing large amount of water and elephantiasis causes to suffer her from swelling. These two deadly culprits causes her to gain that much weight.
Dr. Lukdawala also said that, ” The family is poor and cannot afford the cost of a private chartered flight to Mumbai from Cairo. While we asked the family to make her passport and arrange for visa, I started collecting funds”.
Even after the arrangement of all important funds, they were facing the main issue of her visa. Embassy was adamant on not giving her the visa.
At last, Dr. Lukdawala tweeted to Sushma Swaraj, ” Ma’am , Eman Ahmed (Egypt) 500kgs requested me 2 save her pls help me get her a medical visa as refused thru normal process”.
Sitting in hospital, Swaraj made prompt response, ” Thanks for bringing this to my notice. We will definitely help her”.
After touching the shore of 500 kg, the lady, Abdulati (36 years old) has not came out of her house from last 25 years. In Mumbai, Dr. Lakdawala will be operating on her at hosiptal, the Centre for Obesity and Digestive Surgery.
