Nepal: Prime suspect in Kanpur train derailment arrested by police

A prime suspect in the derailment of the Indore-Patna Express in Kanpur in the early hours of November 21, 2016 has finally been arrested at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday after being deported from Dubai.

A special squad of the Nepal Police arrested Samshul Hoda along with three others.

“We have heard that Hoda is wanted in a railway accident that took place in Kanpur last year killing 150 people,” Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Pashupati Upadhyaya said.

“Nepal Police will also work in close coordination with the Indian police for Hoda’s alleged involvement in criminal activities in India,” he added.

The three others were identified as Brij Kishor Giri, Ashish Singh and Umesh Kumar Kurmi; all from Kalaiya district in southern Nepal.

The police have detained Hoda along with three others to Nepal from Dubai in coordination with the Interpol, Mr. Upadhyaya said.

According to statements of Bihar police, the three accused were paid Rs three lakh by an unindentified man in Nepal, who reportedly had affiliations with Hoda.

Hoda has been suspected in various criminal events and happenings. Moreover, he also has links with international criminal groups and has been involved in a number of criminal activities in Nepal and India, Mr. Upadhyaya said.

Not only this, a criminal case has also been registered against him in Bara District Court.

Hoda has links with international criminal groups and he has been involved in a number of criminal activities in Nepal and India, Upadhyaya informed.

The ISI has been discovered as a suspect in the incident after Bihar police in January arrested three persons on grounds of working for the Pakistani intelligence agency. It was also informed that the ISI agent was targeting Indian railways.
