Not Just a By-poll, Dholpur Elections Hold Much More Than That

Dholpur is quite like a battle ground for the ruling BJP. Though, it is just a bypoll, but both the parties have realized a great potential in this area. Unexpectedly, both the parties have taken it as prestige issue for them. The by-election was a sudden conduct when the previous candidate was sentenced to life imprisonment.

We all know that rising above all judgments on caste and background, BJP chose Mrs. Khushwah as the potential candidate. Congress played safe while projecting Banwari Lal Sharma as their candidate.

B L Khushwah was the winner on the assembly election against Banwari lal Sharma in the year 2013.

Where only two names are highlighting in these elections, there are 15 candidates who are into this contest of by-polls. One of them is Gunjan Jatav who is 25 year old and other 12 are fighting independently.

Though, BJP has confidence of UP victory, it is not leaving any stone unturned for these by polls.

While we can understand the voting agenda adopted by BJP, it is hard to understand what Congress wants to draw out of this. BJP is relying in the development agenda but we saw Sachin Pilot talking of revenge through these polls.

On the other part, the BJP leaders are appearing confidence on their win as they have numerous deeds in their record this time for the constituency.

Also, they have figured out the caste based division of votes. The region has Khushwah and Brahmin in majority along with other castes like Muslims, Gurjars and Jatav.

In the house, 160 MLAs out of 200 MLAs of BJP are holding the seats. With this, it seems that, though these by-polls will not affect the BJP’s decorum in the state, but arises a question of prestige for them.

While the elections will be conducted on April 9th, the counting will take place on April 13th, 2017.
