The Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has decided and announced the outline plan of its much awaited Reliance Jio telecom connection. The Chairman Mukesh Ambani has all set to address the company’s Annual General Meeting today and has made some crucial key announcements of the commercial launch plans of Reliance Jio including its tariff plans and more. There is no second thought on the fact that Reliance Jio is one of the most ambitious project of Reliance Industries, which is focused to bring a new digital revolution in the country. The company is testing its project and services internally with its employees from past one year and now they are about to launch it for masses.

From the last couple of weeks, the Reliance Jio 4G SIM is made available to more people. Previously, it was only available with Reliance Jio Lyf handset but from past few days, many other brands have extended their offer to get a SIM. Also, Apple has tied up with this service.

Till date, there has been an overwhelming response by the public to the connection, especially because of the low cost high-speed data services. But the final tariff rates are not known and in anticipation, many companies have already reduced their fares of pre-paid services. It is hoped that the tariff plans will be very low.

In the meeting, Mukesh Ambani has dedicated this ambitious venture to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that it is a step towards fulfilling the dream of Digital India, by making data connection affordable to everyone.

“Supply of oxygen for digital life should be affordable. Data is oxygen for digital life,” said Ambani in his speech. ““In the next 20 years we will achieve what have achieved in the last 100 years,” Ambani said. “Relaince Jio is the largest 4G LTE in the world. It will cover 90% of India by March 2017,” he added.

Following are some updates he made from the RIL AGM at Birla Matushri Sabhagar in Mumbai from 11 am on September 1:

  • More than 70% of the smartphone devices in India support 4G LTE. So, Ambani announced new Lyf devices with prices starting at Rs. 2,999 till Rs. 5,999. He also announced 4G LTE JioFi router at Rs. 1,999 and ensured that the introductory offer price would be low for Indians.
  • As far as the Jio TV is concerned, it will offer access to 300 plus channels. Jio Cinema will include a library of 6000 movies and 1,00,000 episodes of TV shows. Also, Jio music will have 10 million songs. Jio Money will allow you to go cashless. Apps will be free for all users till December 2017.
  • The sign up process for services would be easy with E-KYC as it will provide you with a working connection with reference to Aadhar Card in just 15 minutes. The process will first roll out in Mumbai and Delhi today and reach the whole India within next 6 weeks. The data base is so strong that it can acquire a million users every day.
  • The Jio tariffs are built on 3 principles naming:

1) The customer will pay for only one service at a time so all voice calls will be free along with all India roaming.

2) Data would be affordable and thus it is introduced with 1/10th of the market rates, 5 paisa/MB or Rs. 50/GB.

3) The pricing structure would be simple and thus, only 10 tariff plans without any Blackout days as follows:

  • The International calling rates will be the best in the industry, and Indians wouldn’t have to turn off the data each time.
  • The Students will get 25% more data on Jio’s main tariffs.
  • The customers will be categorized and Platinum customers will get white glove services.
  • The services will be available free till end of the year under Jio welcome offer.
  • He announced 100 million customers target, which would be a new world record. It has 5,00,000 partners across India and Jio family is nearly 50,00,000 members across India. This is the employment Jio has created.

So, as far as the data Tariff plans are concerned, we could sum up that Reliance Jio has data packs from Small (S) to XXXL. The small plan starts at Rs. 149 for 0.3GB data along with to 100 SMSes. Also a Rs. 499 Medium Pack for 4GB 4G data and access to unlimited 4G at night. The Large, XL, XXL and XXXL 4G packs are priced at Rs. 999, Rs. 1499, Rs. 2499, Rs. 3999 and Rs. 4999. The Reliance Jio data packs give users, an access to free voice calls and all the Jio premium apps including JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioBeats, JioMags, JioXpressNews, JioDrive, JioSecurity and JioMoney.
