Brazil is one of the world’s best places to party and if you were lucky enough, you might have got the tickets for the opening ceremony of Rio Olympics 2016. The event was a total success and a kickass night with all those celebrations. The ceremony was conducted at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro and the whole place was filled with the energy of athletes, media, and spectators from all over the world. The summer games were started with a power-packed opening ceremony followed by the lighting the Olympic cauldron by the Brazilian marathon runner Vanderlei De Lima, which was a sign of official commencement of the games.

Highlights of the show:-

  • The Brazilian Supermodel Gisele Bundchen had walked the runway with “The Girl From Ipanema” being played in the background. Gisele was looking so beautiful and was walking with all her grace, that no one could blink an eye during her performance. However, there was no sign of her husband Tom Brady.
  • A section of the event also depicted the history of Brazil but the commendable thing about it was that neither the organizers nor the performing artists were scared or ashamed of showing the black history of Brazil. The section showed the era of slavery in Brazil and the dangers of climate change which had always haunted the country.
  • Also, the First Flight Society was not scared to show that they were the first ones to have a flight or an aircraft.
  • One of the Nations, Tonga, had literally heated the space with its Flag Bearer, Nicholas Taufatofua, in the long parade of nations. He is an Olympian in taekwondo, and showed off his oiled muscular body frame to the crowd and spiced up the things a bit.
  • One of the warmest and the inspiring welcome was given to a team of Refugee athletes and gripped the attention of all. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) president, Thomas Bach appreciated them and said, “They are a message of hope to the millions of refugees around the globe”.

That’s not all; everything about the event was spectacular and mesmerizing. It was a complete success with colors all around and an atmosphere of celebration and jubilation. The singing and dancing were all around the stadium.

The IOC president Bach had a very positive outlook on the games and said, “All Brazilians can be very proud tonight. With the Olympic Games as a catalyst, you have achieved in only seven years what generations before you could only dream of. You have transformed Rio de Janiero into a modern metropolis and made it even more beautiful. You managed this at a very difficult time in Brazilian history. We have always believed in you.”

Indian Touch at the Event

The Star Sportsperson and sharp shooter, Abhinav Bindra, who is a 2008 Gold Medalist, will be the flag bearer leading the Indian Team of more than 100 athletes at the legendary Rio stadium.

Also, there is controversial news from Rio that the Indian Hockey Team has not participated in the opening ceremony after its fight with the Indian Olympic association has turned massive. The whole issue was relating to the lack of kits for the hockey players which were left unanswered.
