2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro

Another good news has come for the Indians as the talented wrestlers Ravinder Khatri and Babita Kumari have made their way to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro under the 85 kg Greco-Roman style and 53 Kg freestyle women’s championship categories respectively.

These two now join the already qualifies squad of Sandeep Tomar, harshdeep Singh, Sakshi malik, Yogeshwar Dutt and Vinesh Phogat for the upcoming olympics.

Assistant secretary of WFI, Vinod Tomar said, “Four of them have been handed temporary suspension and are de-barred from taking part in the next Olympic qualification event in Istanbul”

He added, “All these wrestlers have shown indiscipline at the last tournament. Even if you want to forfeit your bout or have injury concern, there is a way and procedure to officially withdraw. But these wrestlers did not bother to follow any proper procedure. This reflects very poorly on their as well the country’s part. The world body has also debarred them from the next competition.”

This happened after the United World Wrestling banned those athletes who had finished above them for injecting violations. This is a big achievement for the two and Indians are now hoping for more medals in the Olympics for the country.
