The most illustrious persons who returned their awards in compassion with FTII students were against the rising intolerance and according to them this approach might help in relieving the country from this distress.

So far, there are several Padma Bhushans, National Awards and Akademi Awards are returned which in an opinion is a way to draw govt focus and in other way is a dishonor to the awards.

Vidya Balan reportedly said “This honor (the award) is by the nation and not the government. So I do not want to return it,” Vidya who won the national award in 2012 for the best film actress for her movie “Dirty Picture”.

Some noteworthy Filmmakers like Dibakar Banerjee and Anand Patwardhan were among the 10 film personalities who have returned their National Awards in solidarity with FTII students and against growing intolerance in the country. Banerjee and other filmmakers said their decision to return the awards was taken in view of the apathy displayed by the government in addressing the issues raised by the FTII students and the general environment of intolerance against debate.

With the recent quitting of the strike by the FTII students with their 139 old days strike to return to classes which was of the order of appointment of BJP member Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the prestigious institute. However, they said that they are in a stride to seek his removal from the chairmanship.

Vidya Balan said she will ‘fail miserably’ in politics if she has to be a part of this award returning brigade.

On that note she also added “that working towards social causes should be an individual decision and no one should be compelled to work for a particular cause.”
