Mumbai Indian, the defending IPL team, has selected the Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Stadium as its home ground after the Bombay High Court ordered to shift all matched to be played after April 30th due to the state-wide severe drought conditions. The team was given three options to select from which included Jaipur, Raipur and Nagpur and the team reached a conclusion to make Jaipur, the pink city their home ground for the rest of the matches to be played in the tournament.
Rajeev Shukla, the IPL Chairman said, “We had given Mumbai Indians three options – Jaipur, Kanpur and Raipur. The Mumbai Indians told us that they would like to play their home matches at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Accordingly, the IPL and IMG officials will be going to Rajasthan tomorrow in order to speak to the state government.”
Let us tell you that SMS stadium has not hosted any IPL match since May 2013, though has hosted several champions league, Rajasthan Ranji trophy 2015-16 and a few ODI matches as well.
BCCI (Board of Cricket Council of India) in 2014 banned Rajasthan Cricket Association from hosting any international matches, after the state association willing allegedly elected Lilt Modi as the president because he was an expelled administrator. But Rajeev Shukla clarifies that the suspension of any state body does not suspends the venue and thus they kept Jaipur in one of the options.
Well what happens next would be only finalised after the meeting with the state government but one thing that’s clear is that the cricketer lovers from Rajasthan are excited to welcome back IPL in the state.
