first indian woman gymnast to win medal in commonwealth games

Indian sports have achieved something amazing through gymnast Dipa Karmakar. The woman has broken all records and became the very first female Indian gymnast to qualify for Olympics 2016. Her recent win got this grand opportunity for her to score more and make the nation proud after the first gymnast Ashish Kumar.

The lady is just 22 years old and has showcased so much prowess coming from Tripura. It was in Rio de Janeiro where the final qualifiers called Olympic 2016 Test Event took place. Karmakar came 9th in the first of the four subdivisions of the women`s artistic category.

Before this win, our brilliant gymnast failed to qualify last year when she just missed by one position. But this was just one step down her ladder of success, because after that Karmakar became the first woman gymnast to win a medal, a bronze, in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.
