Rajinikanth’s Kabali Leaves Salman Khan’s Sultan Behind; Earns Rs 650 Crore

Kabali Movie Box Office Colelction

Bollywood and Indian Cinema has suffered a lot in the past few months of this year. Piracy, censor board cuts, bans etc have to an extent spoiled the efforts of the entire team that works behind making of a movie. Though, the month July has been a month of money spinners. Despite Kabali leaked online and Salman Khan’s Sultan leaked online, both the movies did massive business at the box office. Initially Sultan was claimed to the highest grossing movie of the year, but Rajinikanth’s Kabali has been able to break all records.

The film, Kabali broke multiple records when it earned almost Rs 48 crore as its first day Box Office collection and with this itself it left behind the much hyped Salman Khan’s Sultan. Now, the film has earned over Rs 600 crore worldwide, making another big record. The movie was released on July 22.

According to trade statistics, Kabali has so far so earned Rs 211 crore from the Indian box office. The interesting thing to note out here is that out of the total business done in the country, over Rs 40 crore were made in the north India which is traditionally not even considered a base for Rajinikanth films. Moreover, Kabali has internationally done a spectacular box office business. Kabali did massive business in the countries like US, Malaysia, Japan etc. According to Financial Express, Kabali has earned Rs 259 crore in the foreign markets.

To add to its overall business, Kabali had earned Rs 200 crore before its release with deals such as satellite and music rights. The film is expected to touch Rs 700 crore in coming few days; turning over all records and tallies.

Producer S Thanu said earlier, “I will never forget these days in my life. This release has given me so much happiness. It has broken the collection records of Indian cinema in the last 100 years.”

According to sources inside the industry, “the total budget of Kabali was nearly Rs 75 crore, out of which the salary of the lead artist alone was around Rs 50-60 crore. Directed by Pa Ranjith, the movie’s production was much cheaper with relatively young technicians holding forte. While most of the shoots happened on location and sets in Chennai, shooting in Malaysia was probably the only big expense. Interestingly, the luxury vehicles and luxury cars used during the shooting in Malaysia were given free by many Malaysian Tamils and fans of Rajinikanth.”
