Staff lay off by Cyanogen upto 20%

The tech company Cyanogen is in headlines for laying off 20%of their staff according to the recent report. This bulk laying off is done all around the world. The targeted department in which the layoff is being done is the teams developing the alternate Android-ROM.

A reliable source informed about the plan of Cyanogen confirming the move and stating that the company currently employing 136 people is planning to let 30 of them go, which amounts to around 22 percent of the total workforce. A major number of these people were involved in company’s open-source ROM development. The smaller offices in Lisbon and India are in more trouble as the company is completely abandoning their workforce.

As far as the company is concerned, in January 2015, CyanogenMod’s CEO Kirt McMaster has blamed Google over its control of Android in an interview. Such harsh comment has made clear that the company would distance itself from the Google-centric version of Android to its own app store. After the failure of this idea, the company had diverted towards forming partnerships with some of the OEMs, but that too dint worked out well.

Cyanogen has recently raised money from Microsoft Corporation and decided to bundle Microsoft’s productivity apps with its own ROM. The reports ensure Cyanogen’s restructuring is being foreseen by company COO Lio Tal, who was earlier associated with Facebook.
