The beguiled chief minister of Rajasthan, Ms. Vasundhara Raje, specially invited die-hard flag-waver Akshay Kumar and Bollywood Diva Sushmita Sen to join the Swachh Bharat Mission in Rajasthan.
Akshay was in Pink City to promote Shree Narayan Singh’s upcoming movie ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ starring Akshay and Bhumi in lead roles. He used FoE as a medium to speak on personal and menstrual hygiene- factors that contribute to overall health of an individual. The ‘first of its kind’ movie highlights the importance of having personal toilets- a fact conveniently ignored by the traditionalists.
For a country that is desperately trying to achieve ‘Open Defecation Tag,’ it’s an irony that women are subjected to social humiliation and eve-teasing when defecating in the open. The practice reflects poorly on female health, especially on ‘those days.’ In this scenario, Akky’s upcoming movie is an eye-opening lesson to the younger generations. It beautifully relays the tale of a ‘one-day wife’ who leaves her husband’s house as it lacks a toilet. It’s a call for every Indian, who dreams of a better, cleaner and safer future for his country.
Bollywood Heartthrob and the first Miss Universe from India, Sushmita Sen, on the other hand, spoke about girl empowerment- something that India desperately needs to achieve, to prevent female abuse. Sushmita, a single mother, rebelliously broke the taboo by adopting two beautiful daughters. Over the years, she transformed into an idol for hundreds of single parents, working hard to provide for their kids and facing social branding, at the same time.
The CM, herself, appreciated Sen for her ‘practical knowledge’ and ‘substance.’ Quite impressed by Sush’s speech, Raje added, “After all what she has achieved, it’s difficult to be grounded.”
Looking at the philanthropist achievements of both Akshay and Sushmita, it’s no surprise that the CM invited them to make Rajasthan a cleaner state. Knowing that the two talented actors have a strong fan following in India, it was a wise decision to involve them in this social cause. On a positive note, the duo politely accepted the offer and expressed their desire to propagate the message amongst youngster.
Brimming with better ideas and strengthened under ‘celebrity influence’ Rajasthan has set on the path of building up a progressive society for the younger ones. Good luck Team Rajasthan!
