Whatsapp Payment Feature likely to be Launched in India in December

Whatsapp Payment Feature

The popular messenger service Whatsapp is all set to bring its payment option for users in India by December. As per the latest market reports, the Facebook-owned app service would begin the beta test for Whatsapp Payment feature in November and later in December, the feature will be launched in India.

In order to provide this payment option, the company has reportedly tied up with three banks- HDFC, ICICI and State Bank of India. This tie-up via UPI system was approved by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)

The new Whatsapp feature is speculated to be displayed in the attachment menu in the form of rupee symbol. While making the transaction, the user will be required to enter the amount followed by his/her UPI pin. Then the recipient will get notified and will be asked if he wants to accept or reject the payment.

An interesting thing about the feature is that the user won’t have to leave the Whatsapp window at all. The reports also suggest that this Whatsapp payment initiative is led by Mr. Neeraj Arora who belongs to the One97 Communications’ board, owned by PayTm.

Owing to the increasing use of digital payments methods and less use of cash, particularly after demonetization, the Indian market has a great scope for such apps. The available apps like PayTm, MobiKwik, and Google Tez are already getting quite popular among the users. With the arrival of Whatsapp payment feature we wonder if people would switch to Whatsapp payment or would stick to their already favourite apps.

Whatsapp is the most popular messaging app with more than 1 Billion downloads all over the world. The company had recently announced its plans to launch the ‘delete for everyone’ feature which allows a sent message if it’s not older than 7 minutes. Well, it looks like Whatsapp is on a mission to please its users and apparently, they can’t get enough of these features.
