Sundar Pichai Introduces “Digital Unlocked” For Indian SMBs

India is full of small and medium size businesses and partake in the Indian GDP with 37% contribution. Out of this data, 32% are savouring the benefits of digitalisation and are online. Now, the remaining 68% has aroused the scope for Google to offer India an elevating opportunity in 2017. This has been shared by Sundar Pichai, global chief executive officer.

Recently, Mr. Pichai was on mini-trip to India and then he reaffirmed about the Google’s mindset of supporting SMBs. This was held in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Pichai promptly mentioned, “The internet and digital technology will be an engine of growth for the Indian economy. Today, anyone can become an entrepreneur, a developer, or a creator, but it is important that they have the right tools and skills to digitize. We believe it is important for us to invest in training and equipping these individuals and small businesses to accelerate their journey of growth.”

During this event, Pichai made announcement for Digital Unlocked to cater to the remaining 68% offline businesses. This is a training programme from Google for the business owners to learn nooks and corners of digitalization. This is active on all online, offline and mobile platforms. For this, the company will conduct 5,000 workshops across 40 Indian cities.

Targeting and investing in SMBs is making perfect business sense as the companies which are online, elevate with twice of speed of offline business growth. This has been revealed in a combined study between Google and KPMG, named Impact of “internet and digitization on SMBs” The study mentions that 52% percent of the total online businesses, serve the customers out of their city and also offer the employments to five times more people than the offline businesses. The increasing role of digitalisation in business, these online active companied can raise their share in India’s GDP by 10 percent, elevating it up to 46-48% by the year 2020.

Pichai’s announcements are in tune of Google’s efforts to arrange supports for Digital India.  Pervious year also, Google introduced Google My Business which was intended to help SMBs in savouring the presence on Google search and Google Maps. Over 8 million SMBs are currently getting the benefits of this platform without investing in any website or separate domain.
